Aviation Minister Says Middle Seats On Flights Are Filled Because It’s Not Social Distancing Even If They’re Empty

We had gone so long without an extremely stupid comment by a minister, I had actually started getting worried about their well being, but well, the comeback was worth it. Recently, Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Puri made one of the most illogical comments during this coronavirus pandemic and I’m impressed at how absurd it is. So, as everyone knows, social distancing is the new norm and how important it actually is to minimize the spread of coronavirus as much as possible. It’s not that hard to follow, it’s pretty basic. Since domestic air travel is starting from May 25th, preparations for restarting have been going on. Talking about that, he was quoted by Press Trust of India saying that even the middle seats won’t be left empty on flights.

Okay, I get that the social distance rules won’t be fulfilled even with passengers on the window and aisle seat, but leaving the middle seat is pushing it too far. People should not be in such close proximity to each other during a freaking pandemic.

Money is obviously involved. He said, “It’s not viable to keep the middle seat vacant. Even if you keep the middle seat vacant you will still have a situation where prescribed distance for social distancing isn’t followed. If you were to do it then you have to hike up the airline ticket price by 33%.” As expected, the statement was ripped apart on Twitter. Come on, people, do better.

Same energy.

Make it make sense.

Sound logic.

There are so many ways to explain this.

Makes sense.

Okay then.

Sounds like that.

Let’s hope some ‘acche din’ soon arrive for us.
